There were three shootings in eight days within the neighborhood, according to D.C. police.
Park View residents are raising concerns after there were three shootings in eight days inside the Northwest D.C. neighborhood. News4’s Dominique Moody reports.
Bullet holes were visible near Bruce Monroe Elementary School and the Park View Recreation Center after multiple shootings just days apart, leaving many in the Park View community longing for a safe course of action.
“A sustained interest in pursuing a solution but also making residents feel empowered that they have the tools, resources, the support they need to get an answer,” said ANC 1E Commissioner Brad Howard, who represents the area.
There were three shootings within just eight days in the Northwest D.C. neighborhood:
On July 29, a shooting injured a man in the 600 block of Otis Place NW.
On July 31, two women were shot and injured at 3530 Warder Street NW.
On Wednesday, another shooting was reported on Otis Place, only yards from homes, the elementary school and the rec center.
“I think what kind of triggered a lot of the response of frustration, anger and fear among our residents was that they were happening right out in front of the Park View Rec Center,” Howard said.
On Saturday evening, Park View residents gathered for a forum to share their concerns, talk about gun violence prevention and lay out specific steps to address the increase in violence.
“These discussions are critical because we know crime and gun violence is a communal issue and requires a communal response, and so we’re going to continue to work with the community to make sure their voices are amplified and that city leaders and MPD officials understand the fear and concerns of the residents,” Howard said.
