Draft Meeting Minutes:

  • The first regular monthly meeting of the Transportation and Public Spaces Committee was held on February 1st, 2023 at 7:00 pm via Zoom. Meeting was called to order by Committee Chair Jacobson at 7:01 pm. Chairperson Jacobson provided instructions for public participation of the meeting. Chairperson Jacobson asked members of the Committee to introduce themselves. The members attending included Commissioner Wray, Commissioner Footer, Committee Member Ally Batal, and Committee Member Matthew Schaaf. Chairperson Jacobson stated that the community received notice via newsletters, the Commission website, and the Commission Twitter.
  • Chairperson Jacobson presented the Committee meeting agenda. There were no addition or removal requests, and the agenda was approved.
  • During the Community Announcements portion, Commissioner Footer gave an update on the Bond/WRECO building construction and the early plans for public space, including making a segment of W Street a pedestrian friendly street.
  • Official Business
    • We received a presentation from Diane Romo Thomas on the Rock ‘N’ Roll DC Half Marathon taking place on Saturday, March 18th, 2023. The course map can be found here. Parking will not be allowed on the route, and the streets will be closed from 7:30 – 12:45 (with some opening up around 12:15). More details can be found in the ANC packet here. They will also be flyering the course route and a block in each direction to inform affected neighbors.
    • Chair Jacobson briefly presented on the scope of the Committee (documented on our website).
    • Chair Jacobson led a discussion on goals and planning for the year. Each Committee member presented briefly spoke about their priorities and what they would like to see the Committee work on.
    • Chair Jacobson presented on the draft Resolution Requesting DDOT to Study Bike Lanes along Bryant Street. The Committee discussed some minor edits to be followed up on, and unanimously approved the general framework and finishing the draft via email. The resolution will be presented on at the next regular monthly meeting of ANC 1E on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023.
    • Chair Jacobson briefly reminded Committee members of the upcoming budget oversight hearings related to DDOT, DPW, and DGS.
  • Adjournment
    • The Committee adjourned at 8:13 pm. The next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, March 1st, 2023 at 7 pm.

Committee Charter

  • The  Committee is responsible for the following:
    • Identify appropriate issues in transportation, mobility, pedestrian safety, and public spaces, which includes, but is not limited to, public parks, sidewalks, and recreation centers.
    • Consider and recommend strategies for increasing community safety in accordance with Vision Zero goals within the Commission area.
    • Analyze and provide feedback on relevant proposed plans and projects, as well as legislation and agency decisions that impact community safety in line with these goals.
    • Work with neighborhood groups representing vulnerable road users to receive feedback on the Commission’s efforts toward Vision Zero goals.
  • Identify appropriate issues in regards to DDOT actions and policy.
  • Draft resolutions for ANC 1E’s consideration.
  • Coordinate public meetings as necessary. If a public meeting is held, a participant sign-in sheet and meeting notes shall be provided to ANC 1E within 30 calendar days of the meeting date.
  • Research and report findings and provide recommendations to ANC 1E.
  • Track and notify ANC 1E of all relevant hearing dates.
