Unanimous vote creates resident-led working group focused on safety, small business stability, and FY27 budget priorities
WASHINGTON — Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1E voted unanimously Wednesday night to create a Special Committee on Georgia Avenue Economic Development, formalizing a sustained effort to strengthen one of Ward 1’s most important commercial corridors and align neighborhood priorities with the District’s FY27 budget process.
“Georgia Avenue has enormous potential, and this committee is about delivering real progress people can see and feel,” said Commissioner Josh Jacobson (1E06), chair of ANC 1E.
The resolution, introduced by ANC 1E Chair Josh Jacobson and adopted by the full Commission, establishes a working group charged with turning on-the-ground conditions along Georgia Avenue into concrete policy and funding recommendations. The committee will examine commercial vacancies, pedestrian activity, business needs, and public safety conditions within ANC 1E and develop targeted strategies aimed at stabilizing storefronts, increasing foot traffic, and supporting long-term small business growth.
Following adoption, the Commission elected Vice Chair Audra Grant (1E02) and Chair Josh Jacobson (1E06) to serve as co-chairs of the new committee. The group will meet approximately every two weeks over the coming months, engaging residents, business owners, property owners, and relevant District agencies as it develops actionable recommendations for Commission approval.
As part of that work, ANC 1E is inviting residents who live within the Commission’s boundaries to serve on the Special Committee and help shape practical solutions for the future of Georgia Avenue. Committee members will work directly with commissioners to analyze corridor conditions and refine advocacy priorities ahead of the FY27 budget cycle. Per ANC 1E bylaws, members must reside within ANC 1E. Residents are encouraged to apply by March 20, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis. Questions may be directed to 1E@anc.dc.gov.
“If you live in ANC 1E and you want to help shape what we push for next, we invite you to join us to please sign up and be part of this work,” said Commissioner Audra Grant, vice chair of ANC 1E (1E02).

About Advisory Neighborhood Commissions:
ANCs are nonpartisan, locally elected bodies in Washington, D.C., that represent neighborhood interests to the District government. Commissioners serve two-year terms and are elected by single-member districts within each ward.
